R. Zachary Garza, MD

Dr. R. Zachary Garza was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated cum laude with degrees in Mathematical-Economics and English from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia before earning his medical degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico. He completed a 1-year surgical internship at Methodist Dallas Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and a 5-year Orthopaedic residency at University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas prior to completing a Spine Fellowship at South Texas Spinal Clinic.

Dr. Garza treats both pediatric and adult patients with congenital, degenerative, and traumatic spinal conditions with a conservative and thoughtful approach. Treatment goals of symptoms relief and improved function are often met without surgery through conservative means. When required, Dr. Garza performs minimally-invasive procedures using a surgical microscope as well as more complex reconstructive and revision procedures.

Along with Dr. James W. Simmons, Dr. Garza is a member of the Texas Spinal and Thoracic Institute at Methodist Children's Hospital in San Antonio where a highly-trained team of pediatric specialists are dedicated to treating congenital, early-onset, and severe scoliosis associated with rib anomalies and thoracic insufficiency syndrome.

Dr. Garza maintains hospital privileges at Methodist Children's Hospital, Christus Santa Rosa Westover Hills, Stone Oak Methodist Hospital, South Texas Spine and Surgical Hospital, Methodist Hospital System, Baptist Hospital System, Christus Santa Rosa Health System, and Southwest General Hospital.

Dr. Garza strives to provide exceptional, patient-centered, and compassionate care to patients in San Antonio, Seguin, and Laredo, Texas.
